Realistic and surreal, hardly two different ways to describe the works of Jacek Yerka. Artistic current who owns the Polish artist Jacek Yerka is the surrealism, magical and dreamy, but the style is characterized by a strong realism, cared for to the smallest detail almost maniacal. It is impossible not to be fascinated by his work.
Welcome to Yerkaland.
Or welcome to the world of Jacek Yerka. From 1980 the Polish artist creates works whose characters are imaginary creatures as hybrids between characters and objects, but also not only fantastic landscapes with imaginative architecture referring to the dream.
His works are the result of different influences including many childhood memories linked to his life in Poland, rural landscapes, family and acquaintances objects. Artistic influences are almost without fail eye, you notice immediately the influence of fifteenth-century painting and the Flemish artists like Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel, just to name a few.
When you look at an image can't be surprised and fascinated by the fantastic ability to merge two different fictional and make them a only work. The details are made carefully with the color so strong and brilliant that defines forms and shadows.
How to create his works?
By his own admission is not a simple matter to create a dreamlike imagery and make it happen in practice.
Here You can read the explanation directly from the pen of the artist. Believe it or not his little family has a key role in the creation of each piece of art. Wife and daughter helps the creative process by deciding if the sketch can move to the implementation phase or if it should be left in oblivion.
From sketch with pencils to the realization of the final opera he uses pastels and acrylics on canvas. In this way it is able to produce both delicate images like the one you see below (soft colours but defined) or precise and detailed landscapes by strong and brilliant colours.
