I am literally in love and absolutely ravished by digital illustrations created by Catrin Welz-Stein. It is very specific compositions made with colleges old photos or illustrations. The illustrator, living and working in Malaysia, create real works surreal inspired by the Fables, folklore, medieval and Art Nouveau that turn into stories from the nostalgic flavor, romantic, ethereal and melancholy.
Something that is closer to the world of dreams more than reality.
Catrin Welz-Stein He graduated in in Darmstadt, in Germany and then worked for several advertising agencies in Germany, United States and Switzerland. Today she is happily mom and creator of some of the most evocative illustrations I've ever seen.
I have to be honest and say that I was never loved collages, often the images are not homogeneous and most times I have difficulty to understand the sense of image and to grasp the idea that the artist wants to convey.
Digital illustrations by Catrin Welz-Stein are another thing, seem to be created specifically for move something, modern but still smell like the pages of old books.
Much of the work of German graphic designer is the research of the material vintage taken from old books, magazines, photographs and even the internet, free material and no longer protected by copyright on which she can works, then once she find the image that manipulates, crop and retouch until she get new material by cleverly mixing to create beautiful surreal images that you see below.
