The Fuori Salone 2013 is the parallel event held in the city of Milan during the days of exposure Salone Internazionale del Mobile, from 9 to 14 in April you can visit many events organized in various locations of the city of Milan, my favorite of all time is Tortona Design Week. This time of year in Zona Tortona people take possession of the streets, walk into the middle of the road (driving crazy motorists), other languages are spoken and there is meant to gestures and eat something nonchalantly while performing an overly nice outift.
This year due to work commitments I could give only one day, the 10 April and I spent it all at the Tortona Design Week, heart of the Fuori Salone, between students loads of catalogs like Tibetans mules and designers from around the world. I suggest some of the realities that I discovered during my mini-course from Porta Genova to Superstudio Più.
1. Contemporary Japanese Design – Tokyo Crafts & Design
Konichiwa! I was lucky because my first meeting was with Japan at Zona Tartina at via Voghera. The small space is filled with projects carried out by students and designers, in total 40 designers from Japan that tell themselves through a merger between tradition and modernity. Within projects from Tokyo Crafts & Design, a project that promotes items made with traditional production methods adapted by modern designers, the result is a fashion product modern that, conceptually, has a millenary history behind. The designers are very helpful and you can talk to them for information on their products. You can buy the products at jcrafts.com
The bicycle made entirely of wood welcomes you. Design: Yojiro Oshima / Carved Wood Magnifying Glass, meeting between traditional sculpture and modern design. Design: Sumito Watanabe
2. From Yuhang curated by Pinwu Design Studio
The design studio Pinwu comes from China and is comprised of three young designers: Zhang Lei (China), Christoph John (Germany) and Jovana Bogdanovic (Serbia), already in 2012 they were distinguished for winning the SaloneSatellite Design Report Award. This year at the Tortona Design Week in via Tortona offer a selection of projects that deal with the Chinese tradition with an important modern retelling in the forms and use. In this issue offer 10 projects that use traditional Chinese materials: paper, bamboo, silk and porcelain.
Luò lamp is made with the same technique used to create the bamboo paper. Look at the project site fromyuhang.com For more information.
3. Frederik Roije Study
At le Officine della Torneria in via Tortona you can see Dutch design that offers, among other things, a smokestack for garden life. The product is called Smokestack and as you can see it is a small funnel-shaped exterior made of wood and metal designed to enjoy the warmth and natural light, maybe in your garden with spring sunset. Enjoy a natural element like fire in a form reminiscent of the industrial progress with its smoky chimneys. Sure, put out the fire would have had more success! Visit the website of Dutch designer roije.com.
I hope you enjoyed this first part of the route in Zona Tortona. I expect you tomorrow for the second part!
