Whether you like it or not all the girls you know came out of bread and Disney Princesses. It is a fact that your best friend or your girlfriend has a favorite character belong to Disney, Although nowadays that is far from being considered a kid.

Ok, But why do we speak of princesses? You'll find out just reading the post.

My favorite has always been Aurora aka the Sleeping Beauty, but let's face it... she is a blonde fashion model segregated in a hut studio who spends her days talking to birds. Not to mention its elderly caregivers who after 16 years have not yet learned how to make a cake without the aid of a magic wand.

So don't make me miss the variety of human knowledge, years ago I fell madly in Little Mermaid: teenager with obvious problems of multiple personality and a wow hair tint, who falls in love with the ugliest prince ever mind by Disney.

The reason of this article, Since you were wondering before is that the Disney Princesses are terrain explored by illustrators and also fan artists around the world.

Not only, If you go to a store that sells toys you can't come in dolls and various accessories that Disney has relaunched with great success for little girls but with monstrous expence for their mothers.

Some time ago on Pinterest and in many blog had a great success some pictures of a Californian Illustrator from Los Angeles named Claire Hummel aka Shoomlah. It's a beautiful collection of illustrations historically revisited the princesses who love girls and more girls (… and oldest) around the world.

Ok, but what das it means historically accurate?

Claire Hummel, as she describes in her personal site, is a skilled and passionate about costume and in her work as an Illustrator (currently for Microsoft Game Studios Publishing), did an interesting operation revisiting historical costumes worn by our heroines. The result is a nice list of discrepancies between her work and the original Disney .

It appears that around the question of clothes has played a real debate on Deviantart the famous, and much beloved, online platform where various artists upload their creations and eventually become covered with laurels or insults to other members.

The bone of contention is in the shape of blue dress Princess Jasmine (Aladdin), too little Arab shapes and more Indian. Passign from some users on the web that use unkind words for the project a lot of controversy rain for everything: from the fact that the costume is not Arabic to the fact that Mulan is not a real Princess.

All these arguments divert attention from the fact that the entire project, being updated continuously, It is a form of fun and exercise for the american Illustrator. Without forgetting the most important fact: several of the characters, chosen as heroines for the Disney stories, are not corresponding to the real historical characters.

An example for all?

Pocahontas (otherwise known as the “small shameless”) had among the 10 and 12 years when the British settled in Virgina… It seems to me more a 20-year-old in the movie.

Anyway I've found fun revisiting although it is possible that in some cases were not accurate and more romanticized. I find it interesting the video made by the same author on her creative process, in a sense, very carefully, you can obtain a method, a bit like for authors of videos mentioned here.

Controversy aside it remains the talented Claire Hummel, that is no small thing and my advice is to go for a ride on its channels to watch all his works. The site of the artist: shoomlah.com, the account deviantart, the controversy on clothes and history of Pocahontas.
